TURN WAVEFORMS INTO MELODIES
SOME MELODIES YOU WRITE.
THE GOOD ONES YOU FIND.
A tempo-synced oscillator moves through the wavetable. At every step, the height of the wave becomes a note. Change the shape and you change the melody.
HOW IT WORKS
THE PROTOCOL
CHOOSE A WAVE
Start with one of 100+ included wavetables or import your own Serum or Vital format WAV file.
SET THE MUSICAL RULES
Choose a key, scale, octave, and note range, or let the notes you play define the available pitches.
SHAPE THE MOVEMENT
Use 4 parallel sequencers to control which notes play, how they connect, what part of the wave is read, and how the pattern changes.
FEATURES
UNIDENTIFIED FREAKY OSCILLATION
Follow the wave, shape the pattern, and put your favorite discoveries to work.
FIND MELODIES IN THE WAVES
Choose one of the included wavetables or import your own. Its shape becomes an evolving melody line. Morph it as it plays, or switch waves and follow the idea somewhere new.

UNPREDICTABLE SEQUENCING
Four independent sequencers, each with its own length and speed. Dial them in and the pattern reinvents itself as it plays. New chaos, always under your control.

MISSION CONTROL
One screen. No menu-diving, no pages to flip. Ideas come as fast as you can save them, so nothing breaks your flow. All the complexity lives in the movement, not the workflow.

PERFORM THE SPECIMEN
Bank your favorite variations in memory slots, then trigger them live from your MIDI keyboard. Wave Theory follows your chords and locks to your scale, so every variation stays musical as you perform.

LOCK UP THE CREATURE
Found a part you love? Lock it. Then load presets and memory slots around it. The locked parts stay put while everything else changes. Freeze a melody and hunt for a new groove underneath, or blend two presets into a hybrid all your own.

PUT IT IN WARP DRIVE
Wave Theory sends MIDI, not audio, so it plays whatever you point it at — any synth or sampler, software or hardware. New ideas through your sounds.

OUR CREATURE FROM ELSEWHERE
BANGZILLA × BOXED EAR
An extraterrestrial specimen. Made by hand.
BANGZILLA バンジラ
We make music software with people whose ideas capture our imagination. It all starts with a collaborator and idea, along with influences, experiences and obsessions. The result is something distinctive, human and unmistakably BangZilla.
A new plugin label brought to you by The Audio Programmer.

I’m Rory Dow, a sound designer, instrument creator and audio journalist of 25 years, with a knowledge of synths, samplers and sequencers that takes some beating (pun very much intended).
Wave Theory is a labour of love – a sequencer that turns the shape of a wave into a melody, with musicality and workflow at the forefront.

FAQs
How do I install?
After purchase you will receive a download link and installer. Run the installer. On first launch you will be prompted to authorize your license.
How many devices can I install it on?
You can install on up to 3 devices.
Do I need an internet connection?
An internet connection is required for online activation and for periodic license verification.
Alternatively, you can choose offline activation, which involves generating a request file on the offline machine, uploading it from a computer with internet access, and authorizing the license that way. Once activated using the offline method, no further internet connection is required.
Is there a trial?
Yes - you can try Wave Theory for 14 days with no feature limitations.
How do I set up Wave Theory in my DAW?
Wave Theory is a MIDI plugin, so it doesn’t make sound on its own – load it before a synth and send its MIDI output into the synth. Every DAW does this a little differently, so we’ve written step-by-step guides for Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, FL Studio, Bitwig, Reaper, Pro Tools and Studio One.
